May 16, 2019 my understanding is that Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 make good use of the GPU. Sort of but not really. The GPU is only used in the Develop module. I appreciate the GPU support because it definitely makes a difference for me as I make Develop adjustments, but most other operations in Lightroom, and all that are outside Develop, are CPU constrained. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a software initially designed for the desktop users, but it’s been adapted to work on mobile devices as well. Since most smartphones take relatively good pictures and some of the latest ones even use RAW format, it makes sense to have this tool available on mobile devices. Lightroom Classic. The latest/most current version of Lightroom Classic is 10.1.1; Lightroom. The latest/most current version of Lightroom is 4.1.
As usual, there’s support for new cameras:
- Canon EOS 550D (Digital Rebel T2i/ EOS Kiss X4 Digital)
- Kodak Z981
- Leaf Aptus-II 8 and Leaf Aptus-II 10R
- Mamiya DM40
- Olympus E-PL1
- Panasonic G2 and Panasonic G10
- Sony A450
There’s also been some extra work behind the scenes – Lightroom 2.7 and ACR 5.7 now use the new demosaic which has been available in Lightroom 3 beta for some time. This new demosaic retains extra detail in your image, making them sharper and respond better to subsequent noise reduction, however it does mean that images may show a little more noise at default values. This change does apply to your existing images as well as new images, therefore you may wish to check your noise reduction values, possibly increasing the luminance noise reduction by 15-20 to get a result closer to that of Lightroom 2.6 on some images.
ACR 5.7 is now compatible with Lightroom 3 beta 2, so any images opened directly into Photoshop without an interim TIFF/PSD file will now render correctly. Images with settings created by LR3 beta 2 and stored in XMP will also convert correctly, however there are no sliders in the ACR 5.7 dialog to make further adjustments to those new settings – making adjustments will require returning to LR3. Lightroom 2.7 is NOT fully compatible and won’t understand Lightroom 3 beta 2 settings.
We understand we sent perpetual customers down a path of subscribing to a trial version of the new Lightroom Classic CC last week, replacing already installed versions of Lightroom 6.
The good news is we fixed this issue and wanted to get a quick release out to immediately address your concerns. Now once you click on the “Update” button next to Lightroom Classic CC, you will see under the Advanced Options, the “Remove old versions” is unchecked by default. As a result, you can try out Lightroom Classic CC for the trial period and still keep Lightroom 6 running in tandem on your desktop.
We sincerely apologize for not providing a better user experience for our perpetual customers to try out Lightroom Classic CC while still keeping Lightroom 6 in place. This was a mistake on our end. Please let us know if you are experiencing any additional issues with this process moving forward.
New default option for perpetual customers interested in trialing Lightroom Classic CC:
A few clarifications for this release:
What is the difference between Lightroom Classic CC 7.0 vs. Lightroom Classic CC 7.0.1?
The difference is the fix mentioned above, which only impacts perpetual customers, and the customer issue below, which impacts both perpetual and monthly subscribers. If any customer is experiencing crashes in High Sierra upon import from external devices (SD cards/iPhone, etc.), we recommend you upgrade to 7.0.1. Regardless, it’s best to stay up to date with the latest version of Lightroom Classic, and it’s free to do so as a paid, monthly subscriber.
How can I download Lightroom 6 if it’s already been removed in the process of downloading Lightroom CC Classic before this release?
Please follow the steps referenced under “Reinstall Lightroom 6.”
